Louis Hellenic Cruises says erroneous mapping information contained in the nautical chart used by the captain of the 22,412-gt cruiseship Sea Diamond (built 1986) caused the ship’s sinking in April.
The finding was announced today in Athens during a press conference at the Hilton Hotel.
The cruise line says the official nautical chart of the Hellenic Hydrographic office for the shore area of the Greek island Santorini contained incorrect information, causing the Sea Diamond to collide with an underwater reef and subsequently sink.
