Matson has launched a new direct service to Tahiti from the US mainland and Hawaii.

The new offering extends Matson's South Pacific Express (SPX) service connecting its US west coast network and its New Zealand-based network serving the South Pacific islands.

"This new service allows Matson to leverage existing operations in the region to offer market-leading service to a new destination," said Senior Tuilaepa Vic Angoco, senior vice-president for the Pacific.

Matthew Cox-led Matson recently added a second vessel to its SPX service, allowing direct calls on Tahiti and Tonga with fixed-day arrivals every two weeks.
