STX Pan Ocean has attempted to calm fears the first of its VLOCs will sink after being damaged at a Brazilian port.
Its 400,000-dwt Vale Beijing (built 2011) is capturing global headlines after cracks were discovered in its ballast tanks and it began taking on water.
"Sinking is the worst-case scenario,” a spokesperson for parent STX Group told Reuters. "But we believe that the situation is not that serious."
