China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) is continuing to grow its LNG carrier fleet with newbuildings. The state-owned shipping giant is ordering two more 175,000-cbm gas carriers at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC).

The shipowner now has a total of six LNGCs on order at DSIC following contracts for four ships ordered between April and September this year.

CMES said it will be paying $235m for each of the latest newbuildings, a 24% and 17% increase on the price it paid for the first and second pair of LNGCs ordered at DSIC respectively.
