Qatari shipowner Nakilat has taken delivery of the first of four apparently speculatively ordered LNG carrier newbuildings.

The 173,400-cbm Global Energy, which is owned in a joint venture with John Angelicoussis’ Maran Gas Maritime, was named and handed over at DSME on 20 May.

The M-type, electronically controlled gas-injection ship is key for Nakilat as it is the first LNG carrier the company has taken on that was not ordered against a long-term contract with Qatari LNG producers.
