The crisis in the Suez Canal has been helping to stoke a busy market for multipurpose (MPP), project and breakbulk cargoes. But it is just one in a cocktail of ­factors that are pushing rates higher, as space for project and breakbulk cargoes tightens.

Several operators, including Singapore’s AAL Shipping and Germany’s United Heavy Lift (UHL) and BBC Chartering, have vessels in the Suez Canal and they are considering diverting them in the wake of the Ever Given grounding.
