Gard has launched a new app to improve on-board medical care for crew following a concerning increase in medical-related claims over recent years.
The Norwegian marine insurer said there has been a 75% rise in claims related to crew illness or death between 2018 to 2021.
In 2020 — the year the Covid-19 pandemic broke out forcing seafarers to work on ships well beyond their contracted period — mental health claims increased by 34%.
