New underwriting rules from 1 January 2020 will require all Lloyd’s of London underwriters to make clear to shipowners whether or not cyber risks are covered in hull and machinery policies.
Most hull and machinery policies do not currently include cyber risks.
But the Lloyd’s insurance marketplace regards them as a growing threat and is insisting assureds are made fully aware of the extent of their cover.
