Shanghai Vasteast International is one of three more shipowners whose vessels have been caught in the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) crackdown on ships illegally anchoring within the country's territorial waters.

The Chinese company's 28,500-dwt bulker Anemone (built 1997) was arrested after it was spotted at anchor south of Sungai Besar in the Strait of Malacca.

A growing number of shipowners have been caught out since Operation Anchor Illegal was launched in March, with Shanghai Vasteast one of the three latest whose vessels were found to have anchored without first seeking authorisation from the Malaysian Marine Department.
