A South Korean court has handed down jail sentences to five Russian seafarers and an owner for trying to leave port without permission.

The 5,000-dwt cargoship Palladiy (built 1984) hit the headlines last year when four crew were arrested for allegedly "resisting authorities."

The Sputnik news agency cited Russia's Korean consul Roman Bykov as saying the owner of the vessel was jailed for two years and fined, while the captain received a one-year term and a fine.
