The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says it will not issue another round of Jones Act waivers to ship goods to the hurricane-stricken island of Puerto Rico.

US congresswoman Nydia Velazquez asked the agency this week for a one-year waiver on the law, which requires US-built and crewed ships carry goods between US ports.

She made the request as Puerto Rico is facing severe shortages of food and other goods after widespread destruction from Hurricane Maria.
