Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has confirmed a preference for scrubbers as part of its investment to help meet pending emissions guidelines and other sustainability issues.

The Geneva-based liner operator believes there is “a strong business and environmental case” for retrofitting its vessels with scrubbers, given the size of its fleet based on current forecasts.

But potential limits to their use means that low-sulphur fuel will continue to play a significant role at the liner operator.
