Japan's NYK Line and Mitsubishi Shipbuilding have agreed to jointly develop a large-scale liquified carbon dioxide (LCO2) carrier.

The Japanese owner believes the technology will make a significant contribution to the realisation of a carbon-neutral world and that upcoming demand for such vessels will be strong.

NYK said the venture will draw on its experience in vessel operations of all ship sizes and Mitsubishi Shipbuilding’s experience of developing advanced gas-handling technologies for LPG and LNG carriers.
