The Singapore-based Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) has a clear mandate. It is charged with finding pathways for decarbonisation, particularly focusing on what can be done now.

“It’s about shaping standards, deploying solutions, financing projects, and fostering collaboration across sectors,” said Dr Lynn Loo, who was recruited to launch the organisation before its founding in September 2021.

GCMD began with six founding private sector partners covering the entire shipping spectrum: BHP, BW Group, Eastern Pacific Shipping, Foundation Det Norske Veritas, Ocean Network Express and Sembcorp Marine.
