Meiji Shipping of Japan has landed charter contracts for all of its MR tanker newbuildings booked at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD).

Industry sources said the Tokyo-listed shipping company has chartered out four of its eight 50,000-dwt product tankers under construction at HMD to US energy major ExxonMobil.

A Meiji official declined to comment on the company’s shipping activities.

Details of the charter contract were not disclosed, but one tanker source believes ExxonMobil has taken the tankers for at least five years, with options to extend, and is paying a rate in the low to mid-$15,000-per-day range for each unit.
