Growing fears around the global coronavirus outbreak could spell eventual "doomsday" for the embattled cruise sector, according to analysts.

The industry, already reeling from ship quarantines, voyage cancellations and lower bookings, may get clobbered even harder if Spain and Greece shut down like Italy has, SunTrust analyst Patrick Scholes said.

"To be clear, we have no forecasting ability to predict if Spain and Greece get hit hard by the virus, rather we make investors aware how the situation could go from 'awful' to 'bloodbath'", he wrote Tuesday in a note to clients.
