Japanese shipbuilders saw export newbuilding orders reduced by almost 21% during the 2019 financial year as compared to the previous year.

A total of 183 vessels of 8.45m gt were ordered between April 2019 and March 2020 versus 214 ships of 10.69m gt in fiscal year 2018, according to the latest data by Japan Ship Exporters’ Association (JSEA).

Bulkers made up the majority of the orders with 146 vessels, followed by 24 tankers and 13 general cargoships including containerships.
