Six Asian shipping companies are vying to win charter contracts from miner Anglo American for up to 10 dual-fuel capesize newbuildings.

Shipbuilding sources said Taiwan’s U-Ming Marine, Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, South Korea’s H-Line Shipping and Japan’s Mitsui OSK Line, NYK Line and K Line are said to be in the running for the long-term charters.

London-based Anglo American, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment, plans to charter four 187,000-dwt bulker newbuildings, plus options for up to six more.
