Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, China's largest privately owned shipbuilder, has confirmed orders for 29 newbuildings worth $1.3bn.

Containerships made up the bulk of the contracts — 22 vessels worth $1.13bn.

The orders include four 24,000-teu boxships. However, the identity of the buyer was not disclosed.

Singapore-listed Yangzijiang said a separate company has ordered eight 1,800-teu containerships, while China’s largest domestic liner company, Shanghai Zhonggu Logistics, booked 10 4,600-teu newbuildings.
