An Essar capesize has been saved from grounding by a Smit tug after losing power off Australia.
Local media reported that the 165,000–dwt Kiran (built 1994) was being battered by violent seas with swells of up to 10 metres and 50-knot winds on Tuesday morning between Slangkop and Llandudno.
The ship was carrying iron ore from Saldanha Bay and had full fuel tanks for a trip to China.
