The row over liability for the collision between the USS Fitzgerald destroyer and the Japanese 2,858-teu boxship ACX Crystal (built 2008) is set to roll on, despite the US Navy taking strong disciplinary action against its own crew.
A navy spokesperson said it would not accept that the USS Fitzgerald was “solely responsible” for the collision, adding that its investigation showed both sides “demonstrated poor seamanship”.
