Newbuildings contracted to run on alternative fuels are on the rise, and while LNG dominates the orderbook not everyone is convinced.

Clarksons Research managing director Stephen Gordon said 30% of the vessel orderbook will run on alternative fuels.

The lion's share of those vessels — 28% of orders by tonnage this year — have been contracted as LNG fuel capable with the balance made up of LPG and others such as methanol, biofuel and hydrogen, he explained.
