One Chinese state-owned shipyard is making a comeback to the newbuilding market as the shipbuilding sector is facing a capacity crunch.

China State Shipbuilding Corp-controlled (CSSC) Shanghai Shipyard, which delivered its last vessel — a mini-capesize bulk carrier — in 2019, will focus on building container ships and tanker newbuildings.

According to shipbuilding sources, the revival of Shanghai Shipyard was made possible by sister shipyard Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS).
