Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine expects to take on more ship repair and green technology retrofit work this year as shipowners seek for alternatives to Chinese yards due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Speaking at the company’s 2019 results briefing on Thursday, during which it revealed a net loss of SGD 137m ($97.8m) on revenues of SGD 2.88bn, senior company managers said that some customers who had previously allocated repair and retrofit work for their fleets between itself and yards in China were indicating that they wanted to undertake more of the work at its yards in Singapore.
