Chinese owner EGPN Bulk Carrier is said to have exercised an option for two stainless-steel chemical carriers at Wuhu Shipyard — lifting its order tally there for 18,500-dwt IMO Tier II tankers to six.

Shipbuilding sources with knowledge of the contract said EGPN added the latest two after exercising an option it has held at the yard since April.

The company is believed to be paying about $30m each for the vessels, which will comply with Phase 3 of the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) standards and Tier II NOx rules.
