Draught restrictions imposed by the Panama Canal could impact the tanker market if they last as long as expected, shipbroker MJLF said.

The limits could lead to fewer shipments of crude from Ecuador to the US on panamax tankers, wrote Court Smith, an analyst at the Connecticut tanker brokerage.

"This presumably would drive more barrels to the US West Coast/ Pacific market and lead to more co-loading of aframaxes," he said in a daily note to clients.
