A product tanker owned by a private company within the Scorpio Group is among the dozens of ships stranded near the eastern Ukraine port of Mykolaiv.

The vessel was purchased by the Scorpio entity last September as the 38,000-dwt Harald Maersk from its insurers after Maersk Tankers negotiated a six-month payment under war risk policies.

Scorpio has renamed the vessel in an unusual way, electing to call it Bald Man.

A Scorpio official confirmed the transaction to TradeWinds this week but had little else to say about the vessel given the sensitivity on the situation on the frontlines of the battleground between Russian and Ukrainian troops.
