Rising activity in the VLCC market is picking up rates, with the most in-demand ships earning more than $80,000 per day.

Investment bank BTIG said scrubber-fitted VLCCs sailing from the Middle East to Asia were earning $81,100 per day, surging 10% from Friday, while Howe Robinson said an eco-designed vessel on the same route could earn $84,400 per day.

“With the large amount of activity seen for the final decade of October in the [Middle East Gulf], and with a tighter position list as a result, market sentiment firmed, and rates picked up,” Howe Robinson said.
