A litany of industry groups have revised their cyber security recommendations in an effort to give shipowners the means to defend themselves should they be hit with an attack.

The revision to the Guidelines of Cyber Security On Board ships comes after several high-profile cyber attacks rocked shipping this year and is the first in more than two years.

Bimco cyber security working group chairman and Columbia Ship Management director Dirk Fry said the attacks have had "little to no safety impact" on the industry, but have impacted companies' bottom lines.
