Shipping technology group Wartsila will commercially launch in early 2022 a combustion technology platform to enable conversion of two-stroke main engines to operate on clean-burning future fuels.

The Two-Stroke Future Fuels Conversion platform, developed by Wartsila in collaboration with MSC Shipmanagement, is aimed at fast and cost-effective retrofitting of ships to avoid long off-hire time.

The retrofit conversion will initially enable operation with currently available LNG fuel, with what Wartsila claims will be negligible methane slip.
