NYK has helped launch a pilot tidal power project in Singapore.
Together with group company MTI, the Japanese shipowner said turbines fitted under Sentosa Boardwalk began generating electricity this month.
The MAKO Energy systems will be studied over the next year.
The power produced supports the lighting along the boardwalk, which connects Singapore to Sentosa island.
