Last April, the company shortlisted state-owned Cochin Shipyard (CSL) to build a dual-source, 12-streamer ship with an advanced onboard data-interpretation and processing system.

Following price renegotiations between the two parties, CSL agreed to build the vessel at a cost of $236.9m instead of its original price of $254m. But sources say ONGC’s top management is now evaluating whether to take a ship on long-term charter instead.
