Greek operator Eurotankers’ 160,000-dwt tanker Eurohope (built 1999) was arrested in Singapore on Monday by a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based oil trader, which claims to have suffered damages because a fixture it lined up to carry a load of crude from rebel-held eastern Libya was cancelled.

DSA Consultancy FZC, a little-known company registered in the Sharjah Freezone, is seeking to recover $400,000 it claims Eurotankers’ refusal to load its cargo caused it to suffer in damages.

Eurotankers, in an e-mail sent to TradeWinds by its legal department, said it had no choice but to cancel the charter after it received notice from the Libyan National Oil Corp (NOC) in Tripoli that the cargo was an unauthorised one.
