Metis is an obscure deity in the ancient Greek pantheon: a nymph venerated for her gift to provide wise, prudent and shrewd advice. Her main claim to fame was as mother to Athena, the Hellenes’ warrior goddess.
Now her reputation is spreading fast in shipping circles since Athens company Metis Cybertechnology adopted the name when it was established last year.
Several firms, including Globus Maritime, Hellenic Tankers, Pleiades Shipping Agency and Star Bulk Carriers, have signed up to the service, whose name can also be read as an acronym for “Maritime Efficiency Through Intelligent Systems”, says chief executive Mike Konstantinidis.
