Shipping consultancy Drewry has downgraded its container demand forecast for the next five years.
It blamed a gloomier world economic outlook and rising trade tensions.
Drewry's global supply-demand index was previously expected to take incremental steps upwards through to 2022.
However, the new forecast suggests that the industry now faces being stuck with the current over-supplied situation for several more years.
