Short sea routes in the English Channel and the Irish Sea have carried their positive momentum from 2015 into the new year.

According to figures published by Discover Ferries, freight units transported between January and June rose by 3.1% to 2.26m units.

This followed a year-on-year increase of 4.8% to 4.41m units in 2015.
