Yara International has begun model tests of its new zero emission autonomous containership design ahead of a newbuilding order later this year.
A six-meter long model of the Yara Birkeland, named after the founder of Yara Kristian Birkeland, was launched at SINTEF Ocean’s 80 meter long sea laboratory in Trondheim, Norway last week.
In May, Yara announced the partnership with technology company Kongsberg to build the world’s first electric container ship, which has been designed by Marin Teknikk.
