Concerns about the stability of the Costa Concordia are preventing salvors from removing bunkers from the ship.

Over the weekend Italian authorities had still to grant Smit a go-ahead for the fuel removal, the Dutch salvor said in an update.

Bunkers on the vessel are estimated to comprise 2,200t of IFO, 185t of MGO and lubricants, distributed over seventeen tanks.

A team of about 35 people from Smit and local salvor Tito Neri are on the Island of Giglio, preparing to remove the oils.
