Hungry Turkish shipbreakers have managed to secure an Italian freight ferry by towing it from Italy to Aliaga.

Turkish ship recycling sources report that Grimaldi Line’s 26,500-gt ro-ro vessel Eurocargo Trieste (built 1997) was beached at Aliaga this week.

It arrived there under tow from Piombino with now crew on board.

No pricing details have been disclosed.

The vessel, owned by Grimaldi subsidiary Malta Motorways of the Sea, was disabled by an engine room fire in November 2019 and subsequently declared a constructive total loss.
