A plan to launch zero-emission fast-ferry services in Stockholm may be headed by a new company, but it is a spin-off from Swedish battery system producer Echandia, which has a record in electric-powered vessels.

Green City Ferries (GCF) was spun off about two years ago, the first company to be awarded a DNV type approval certificate for a marine lithium-titanate-oxide (LTO) battery system.

Echandia’s record includes developing the world’s first electric ferry with superfast charging, the Movitz, and the world’s fastest electric ferry, the European Union-funded BB Green.
