Portuguese owner Transtejo is launching a tender for 10 new ferries to renew its ageing fleet.
The Lisbon company's plan has been approved by the country's cabinet, Portugal News reported.
The first new catamaran is planned for delivery from the end of next year.
Three more vessels will come in 2021 and then the remaining six in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
