Asian shipowners have urged recycling yards to improve their environmental credentials ahead of an expected boom in demolition next year.

The Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA) said that it expects recycling levels to take off in 2023. It said recycling reached around 24m dwt in 2021, and is expected to reach a similar figure in 2022.

Quoting figures from broker Clarksons, the ASA said that ship recycling volumes are set to nearly double next year, to around 45.5m
