Irish Continental Group (ICG) will appeal a ruling by Ireland's National Transport Authority (NTA) that it has to compensate passengers let down by a delayed newbuilding delivery.

The owner of Irish Ferries cancelled summer 2018 sailings to France after German yard Flensburger failed to complete the 50,000-gt WB Yeats on time.

The NTA said it was not satisfied that the unavailability of the ferry was "an extraordinary circumstance hindering the performance of the cancelled passenger services which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken".
