Up to 65 LNG carrier newbuildings could be required before 2021 if just half the planned new liquefaction projects are realised.

In its 2018 Maritime Outlook, Morgan Stanley Research expects the shipping market to tighten further in 2019 to 2020 on the back of LNG supply growth.

The analysts said that while the immediate demand for LNG carriers up to 2021 is about nine vessels, if 50% of the “probable” new liquefaction projects planned are sanctioned then this could increase to 65 vessels.
