GTT and two partners have unveiled a new concept to retrofit a neo-panamax container ship with LNG-fuelling while upsizing its cargo capacity.

The French membrane containment system designer revealed the project with engineer Alwena Shipping and shipyard Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) Co (CHI Zhoushan).

GTT business development manager Jean-Benoit Bensoussan told TradeWinds that the partners focused on a 14,000-teu container ship following the retrofit of Hapag-Lloyd’s 14,993-teu Sajir (built 2014), which has been renamed the Brussels Express.
