Charter rates for spot trading LNG carriers have slipped off the hugely strengthened levels seen during late 2017 and the early part of this year.

Brokers have nudged down their average rate quotes by up to 10% after chartering activity slowed and the number of open ships in Asia began to rise, partly on the back of vessel redeliveries.

Estimates vary but several put spot levels for modern tri- and dual-fuel vessels in the mid $60,000-to-$70,000-per-day range, with daily levels for steam turbine ships being around the $40,000 mark or less.
