The Montoir-de-Bretagne LNG terminal was born big.

It was built in 1980, in a post-oil crisis era when LNG shipping was expected to mirror crude shipments, then moving towards ULCCs, and expand with bigger vessels. As a result, the facility was vastly over-engineered and can accommodate a Q-Max vessel, although it has yet to receive one.

Montoir-de-Bretagne site manager Bruno Michael said it was once the biggest terminal in Europe.
