Japanese companies Mitsui and Mitsubishi have finalised the acquisition of a 14.7% stake in the Browse LNG export project in Western Australia.

The duo, working together under the Browse-focused offshoot of their 50-50 joint venture Japan Australia LNG, first struck the deal with project operator Woodside Petroleum at a cost of $2 billion in April.

As a result of the acquisition, the Japanese companies now own 16% and 8% working interests in the natural gas and condensate fields of Eastern Browse and Western Browse joint ventures respectively.
