Excelerate Energy is said to have signed preliminary agreements with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (Prepa) to provide a floating regasification unit.
The company will now start design and permitting work for the Caribbean island project. The facility is expected to start with one of Excelerate’s 138,000-cbm LNG regasification ships. However, shoreside infrastructure would allow larger vessels in future.
The unit is to be sited off Puerto Rico’s southern coast.
