Officials of Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers have been studying the market and have completed a design for a ship with 7,000 square metres of corrals, a speed of 17.1 knots and a sailing range of 16,000 kilometres.

The next step for the Guangzhou-based company is commercial negotiations to select a shipyard, its officials tell TradeWinds.

Cosco Specialised, which shed its old name Cosco Ltd (Coscol) last year as part of the merger of the Cosco and China Shipping groups, plans initially to order two such ships.
